by July 22nd, 2017

Raft captains on the Rio Grande have returned to work following a meeting with representatives of the Destination Assurance Council (DAC) at the Berrydale raft stand in Portland, this morning (July 22).

This follows yesterday’s strike by the raft captains which resulted in the halt of rafting on the Rio Grande.

They complained that three rafts were damaged by the police and that four raft captains had been arrested.

In addressing the raft captains this morning, DAC member, Ann Marie Vaz said it is unfortunate and disappointing that the raft captains had to go on strike to get their concerns addressed.

She asked the President of the Rio Grande Raft Captains Association to submit a report, as an investigation is being launched into the matter.

Meantime, President of the Rio Grande Raft Captains Association Lawrence Chisholm says some measures being implemented by the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCO) are unacceptable and are affecting the raft captains.

Chairman of the DAC, Errol Hanna says he will meet with TPDCO next week to discuss the matter.
