Christopher Taylor mines 200 metres Gold at Pan American ‘Junior Champs’

Jamaica’s sensational junior sprinter Christopher Taylor ran way with the gold medal in the boys 200 meters final at the Junior Pan-American Athletics Championships  today in  Lima  Peru.

The World Youth 400metres champion and Calabar high school standout won the event in 20.38 seconds, with USA’s Tyrese Cooper second in 20.59 seconds, with the bronze going to Derrick de Souza Silva of Brazil in 20.77 seconds.

On the girls side Patrice moody and Kasheka Cameron finished fourth and fifth in the girls  as moody posted 24.04 seconds, and Cameron just behind in 24.21 seconds. The race was won by the Canadian Ashland Best in 23.27 seconds.

Fiona Richards and Gabriele bailey finished 6th and 7th respectively in the girl’s discus final. Richards threw 48.92 meters and bailey registered 48.50 meters in her best attempt.

Akeen Colley was a sixth place finisher in the boys 800 meters final , after he crossed the line 1 minute 53.12 seconds, with the gold going to Ryan Sanchez Estrada of Puerto Rico in one minute 46.41 seconds.

Jevaughney James was the lone qualifier for the boys 400 meters hurdles final, as he finished second in his semi-final in 51.66 seconds, his compatriot Timor Barrett was fourth in semi-final two in 53.73 seconds and failed to advance.

There was better luck for Nicolee Foster on the girl’s side as she secured her place in the final after she won semi-final one in 58.95 seconds.

Meanwhile Jamaica’s first medal of the games was secured on yesterday’s opening day buy Tissana Hickling.

Hickling competing in the girls long jump mined the silver after a leap of 6.36 meters while fellow Jamaican Susan Francis was 8th with a 5.86 effort…the event was won by Davis of the united states with a leap of 6.51 meters.

Today Hickling was out of the medals in the triple jump final after she finished sixth with a leap of 12.85 meters.
