Jamaica beats Mexico one nil to book a spot in Concacaf Gold Cup final

by July 24th, 2017

An 88th minute strike from Kemar ‘Taxi’ Lawrence powered Jamaica into the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup final as the Reggae Boys clipped Mexico one nil on Sunday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Lawrence scored with a free kick into the top left corner after Michael Binns was brought down on a foul by Mexico’s Hugo Ayala.

Then a cool and composed Lawrence stepped up and fired around the wall, as the Mexican Goal keeper could only watch as the ball flew past him at a frightening pace.

Lawrence’s goal was the difference between the two sides, but Jamaica wouldn’t have been in a position to prevail were it not for a standout performance by goalkeeper Andre Blake, who was named man of the match.

It was sweet revenge for Jamaica who lost 3-1 to the Mexicans in the final of the 2015 edition.

With the win, Jamaica sets up a final against the United States at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Wednesday.
