Jamaican Michael Gunning finished in the top 40 of the men’s 200 meters butterfly on the third day of competition at the FINA World Swimming championship in Budapest, Hungary today.
Gunning placed 35th overall in the event, after touching the wall in 2 minutes 01.73 seconds.
Yesterday gunning made his senior international debut for Jamaica on the best possible note by breaking the national 200 meters freestyle record. This as he lowered his own national -standard of 1 minute: 50.71 seconds to establish a new mark of 1 minute: 50.00 seconds, which placed him 43rd overall.
That is the best placing for a Jamaican man at the world championships since Olympian Allan-Roy marsh competed at the 1982 edition in Guayaquil Ecuador.
Gunning’s performance also places him third amongst swimmers from the Carifta region and fourth overall in the cc-can region.
