TAJ Ready for Traffic Ticket Amnesty

Tax Administration Jamaica, TAJ is expressing, its readiness, to facilitate payments, during the traffic ticket amnesty, to come into effect on Wednesday, August 2.

National Security Minister, Robert Montague announced a traffic ticket amnesty, for motorists with outstanding tickets.

The amnesty, will run from August 2 to  October 31.

The government is seeking to recover outstanding fines from tickets, issued between September 1, 2010 and July 31,  2017.

The government has said, this is a practical approach and effort, to collect some 2 point 84 billion dollars, in outstanding traffic tickets, as at December 31, last year.

Chief Corporate Communications Officer at TAJ, Meris Haughton, says systems are in place to accommodate the increased numbers of persons, who want to take advantage of the amnesty.

She adds, that 8 locations will be opened on Saturdays, starting on august 12, to facilitate payments during the amnesty period.

The eight tax offices that will be opened during the amnesty period are: Constant Spring, Mandeville, Montego Bay, Spanish Town, May Pen, ST Ann’s Bay, Savanna La-Mar, and Portmore Locations.

Meantime, Ms Haughton is urging persons to take advantage of its online system, during the amnesty.

 

The government said  earlier,  it was spending 23 million dollars, to carry out various activities, to ensure the smooth implementation of the  three-month traffic ticket amnesty.
