Traffic ticket amnesty call centre glitches resolved

Head of the Highway and Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen says, some technical difficulties experienced today (Aug 2) at the amnesty call centre, have been resolved.

Today is the first day of the traffic ticket amnesty, for which government is seeking to recover outstanding fines from tickets, issued between September 1, 2010, and July 31 this year.

A number of callers, who sought to take advantage of the amnesty via the call centre,   reported experiencing minor glitches to include calls being dropped.

According to SSP Allen, since the problem was rectified, the call centre has received over 600 calls.

Persons can call the amnesty call centre at 948- 0411, to ascertain information on how to pay outstanding traffic tickets.

SSP Allen is reminding motorists of the process to ascertain information needed.

He says, callers seeking information about one to 5 traffic tickets, will be provided with the data over the phone, but the process varies for motorists seeking information about 6 or more tickets.

The amnesty will run from August 2 to October 31.

In the meantime, Chief Corporate Communications Officer at TAJ Merris Haughton, says not many people showed up at its offices today, the first day of the three month amnesty.

She is however reminding motorists that the TAJ’s systems have been updated, to allow payments for outstanding traffic tickets, dating back to September 2010.

She notes that payments may be made online using a credit card, provided that the traffic ticket number is reflected.

She is imploring persons to utilize the online system in place for their own convenience.

Ms. Haughton adds that during the amnesty period the TAJ will open on Saturdays, starting August 12 at several tax offices from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to facilitate the payment of traffic tickets.

These offices include, St. Andrew, Montego Bay, Mandeville, Savanna-La-Mar, Spanish Town.
