Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, fresh from making a second consecutive appearance in the CONCACAF Gold Cup finals, have moved up a whopping 19 places on the latest release of the FIFA Coca Cola World Rankings.

The Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore led Boyz, who lost to the United States in the Gold Cup final, accrued the most points over the month to occupy the number 57 spot. They are now the second highest placed Caribbean team on the rankings and are 5^th in CONCACAF overall.

The region continues to be led by Mexico (14^th, up 2) followed by Costa Rica (21^st, up 5), Gold Cup champions United States (26^th, up 9) and Haiti who dropped 6 places to 55.

Next are Panama (61^st, down 9), Honduras (75^th, down 3), Trinidad and Tobago (83^rd, down 5), Caribbean champions Curacao who were the worst mover (86^th, down 18), Canada (95^th, up 5) and Guatemala (100^th, up 2).

Top spot on the rankings is once again held by 5 time world champions Brazil after a one-month hiatus, replacing reigning FIFA World Cup and Confederations Cup champions Germany (2nd, down 1), who slipped back into second spot.

Argentina remain in third but the heavyweight trio are accompanied in the top five by two sides reaching unusually heady heights. Switzerland (4th, up 1) have reached their highest position since the very first month of the World Ranking (they were third in August 1993), while Poland (5th, up 1) are at an all-time high. Neither have dropped in the standings for 11 months.

Completing the top 10 are European champions Portugal, Copa America winners Chile, Colombia, Belgium and France.

A special mention also goes to Namibia (136th, up 20), who were the month’s biggest climbers.
