by August 18th, 2017

Darren Sammy has been removed as captain of the struggling St. Lucia Stars in the ongoing Hero Caribbean Premier League.

This following the teams’ dismal run where they have lost all six games and now find themselves at the foot of the standings without a single point.

Former Australian test allrounder Shane Watson takes over the leadership of the team and will be assisted by his new deputy  Jamaican middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels starting for their game against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in St. Kitts on Saturday.

Sammy, whose stint at the helm of the Stars which was previously the Zouks, spans 40 matches across five seasons.

A press release from the Stars insisted that Sammy remained an integral part of the team.

Sammy, barring the results, has had a good tournament scoring a 50 against the Barbados Tridents.

They were then upstaged in the final over by Guyana Amazon Warriors and most recently lost to Jamaica Tallawahs after bossing the majority the match.

The new captain Watson has excellent credentials in T20 cricket, with 5691 runs and 194 wickets and has led teams in the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League in Australia.
