CXC to issue results for CSEC & CAPE tonight

The results for the 2017 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) will be available online by midnight tonight.

Education Minister, Senator Ruel Reid, made the announcement this afternoon (Aug 18) at a press conference at the ministry’s Kingston offices.

He noted that there were some improvement seen in both CAPE and CSEC results, this year.

Senator Reid says, for CAPE there was a 3.2 percentage improvement, and in CSEC there was a 2.5 percentage increase.

A total of 35,619 students registered for CSEC exams, of which 33,7 99 students sat the examination.

The minister says for Mathematics and English, there was a 50 percent and 70. 8 percentage pass, respectively.

Mr. Reid notes that the highest percentage passes for CSEC this year is for Economics.

He highlights that five subjects had an average of over 90 percent, Agriculture Science double award 96. 8 percent, Agriculture Science single award 91.3, Principles of Business 91. 4 and Physical Education and Sport 96. 2 and Foods 92 percent.

The Education Minister adds that males achieved higher percentage passes than females in Chemistry, Biology and Electronic Document Preparation and Management this year.

In the meantime, the Education Minister says, students were successful in the four new subjects that were introduced in the CAPE examinations, this year.

Students were entered for 36 subjects, inclusive of four new subjects Financial Services Studies, Green Engineering, Performing Arts Cinematic Arts and Music.

The minister says, there was improved performance in 23 subjects when compared with 2016.
