The Patriots chasing 169 runs for victory were well placed at 84 for 1 after 9 overs and three balls when the contest was called off due to non-stop rain.
Gayle’s tally included 4 fours and two sixes, and he was supported by Mohamed Hafeez who made 30 not out, following the early dismissal of Evin Lewis for a duck.
Earlier Keiron Pollard who was named man of the match smashed an unbeaten 63 off 40 balls to steer the tridents to 168 for 6 off their allotted 20 overs.
The win carried the patriots to second in the table with four wins from five games while tridents have suffered their third loss.
