by September 4th, 2017

Bridgeport High School was among the double winners on the opening day of the Ninth staging of the Jamaica High School Alumni Sports Network (JHSASN) tournament at the Lauderhill Sports Park in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday.

Bridgeport’s team cohesion and ball movement was exceptional on the day, with the best example coming in their 5-1 hammering of Zone A’ opponent St Mary’s College, thanks to a double strike from Jamarley Spence in match which was pretty much one way traffic.

Elsewhere in the group, Excelsior High School chalked up six valuable points after two games, guided by striker Olando Lawrence who was on the scoresheet in their 1-nil win over Wolmer’s . He was at it again later in the day when he converted a powerful well timed free kick in the last kick of the game to help the Mountain View Avenue based school in a similar margin of victory over St Mary’s College.

Meanwhile, Ferncourt, Cornwall College and Clarendon College booked a spot in the second round playoff after Mannings High School withdrew reducing Zone C’ to three teams, Ferncourt however topped the Zone with maximum 6 points following one nil wins over Cornwall College and Clarendon College respectively.

In Zone B’ the much talked about match up between Kingston  College and Calabar ended in a one all draw, while the other feature game in the Zone saw Glenmuir dispatching  Tivoli one nil.

In select games in Zone D’ Dinthill shut out St Elizabeth Technical 2-nil, while Meadowbrook clipped Herbert Morrison one nil.

Today, the final set of games in the preliminary round, as well as the second round playoff, the semi-final and grand finale will be contested.

An All Manning vs an All Dacosta Cup team match up is also on the cards for the spectators.
