Elaine Thompson top overall earner in 2017 Diamond League

Double Olympic gold medallist Elaine Thompson was the top earner at the 2017 IAAF Diamond League which ended on Friday in Brussels.

Thompson, who suffered disappointment at the World Championships in London, logged a whopping USD $134,000 after competing in 9 of the 14 races in the series.

Her earnings of just over JMD $17.2 million follows wins in Doha, Shanghai, Paris, London, Rabat, Birmingham and the finals in Brussels. She suffered losses in Eugene – where she was 3rd – and in Zurich – where she placed 2nd.

Victory in Brussels on Friday saw her lifting the Diamond Trophy and the purse worth $50,000.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas was second best overall with earnings of USD $127,000.

London World Championships finalist Frederick Dacres was the second best Jamaican on the money list with earnings of USD $42,000 following his win in Stockholm and second place finishes in Oslo, London and Brussels.

Novelene Williams-Mills at $31,500 was the third highest earning Jamaican with Kimberley Williams 4th at $24,500 followed by Shericka Jackson who closed out the top 5 after pocketing $16,000.

Track and field legend Usain Bolt with a lone appearance in Monaco, where he was a winner, placed 8th among Jamaican earners with $10,000. Ahead of him were Ronald Levy ($15,000) and World and Olympic 110m hurdles champion Omar McLeod who walked away with $11,500.

Simone Facey and Danielle Williams also pocketed $10,000 dollars each.
