The National Works Agency (NWA) says a section of the Bustamante Highway in Clarendon has collapsed.
Motorists are being advised to proceed with caution between Glenmuir Road and the road to Vernamfield.
The agency says the collapsed area is part of the east bound lane.
According to Communications and Customer Service Manager at the NWA Stephen Shaw, the roadway failed earlier this afternoon (Sep 28).
An NWA team went to the area today to assess the damage.
Mr. Shaw says the roadway has been reduced to single lane traffic.
He is urging motorists to obey the instructions of NWA officers on location as they try to direct vehicles around the undermined area.
The cause of the failure has not yet been determined.
The NWA says to avoid delays, motorists heading towards Kingston from Mandeville can turn left at the Four Paths roundabout and travel along Muirhead Avenue up to Glenmuir Road.
