Gordon takes issue with size of PNP shadow cabinet

by September 29th, 2017

At least one commentator has taken issue with the size of the new shadow cabinet.

Attorney-at-law Linton Gordon believes twelve to fifteen persons could get the job done, rather than the 27 member shadow cabinet announced by Opposition Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips.

There are 18 cabinet ministers.

Mr. Gordon says it is difficult at this point to make a sensible prediction as to whether the persons appointed will do a good job, as several of persons placed have never served under the named portfolios.

On the appointment of Fitz Jackson as spokesman on national security, Mr. Gordon believes Dr. Phillips should have taken that portfolio.

Mr. Gordon says Dr. Phillips should focus on sending a signal that he would create a leaner cabinet, should his party form the next government.

In the meantime, General Secretary of the governing Jamaica Labour Party, Dr. Horace Chang, says there was no surprises in the appointment of the 27-member shadow cabinet.

He believes the selections were based on the internal dynamics of the People’s National Party, as the individuals appointed are strong supporters of Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips.
