Some eleven schools have already implemented the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine programme for girls in grade 7.
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton visited the Ocho Rios High school in St. Ann today (Oct 6) as part of his on the ground examination of the HPV vaccine programme.
He says the process has generally gone smoothly.
There has been opposition to the programme by some parents who have been calling for more information about the vaccine.
The Health Minister says those students whose parents opted for them not to receive the vaccine, will be engaged.
He says the take up rate among students is between 70 and 80 percent.
Meantime, the Acting Principal of Ocho Rios High, Leo DaCosta says the feedback from parents and students about the vaccination programme has been good so far.
The Health Ministry said this week that it is working with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders so that there is adequate information to parents, guardians and students.
The ministry says this may result in delays from the original schedule for a school, but where this is in place the programme will proceed.
