Doctors battling for SE St Mary seat promise residents a better life

The candidates for the two major political parties have highlighted a number of issues that need to be addressed to make life better for residents of South East St. Mary.

The seat is being hotly contested by Dr. Shane Alexis of the PNP and Dr. Norman Dunn of the JLP.

The two were accompanied by their party leaders and hundreds of supporters who were oozing confidence of victory at the polls on October 30.

The streets of Annotto Bay were filled with orange and green clad supporters while music added to the atmosphere.

JLP candidate Dr. Norman Dunn was the first to be nominated today. He used 30 $100 bills to secure his place in the race.

After being nominated Dr. Dunn stated that if elected, he will be focusing on jobs and housing for the residents in the consistency.

The JLP lost the seat in the general elections by five votes and Dr. Dunn is anticipating a wider margin of victory.

Meanwhile, PNP candidate Dr. Shane Alexis was the second person to be nominated today.

He used 3 $1,000 bills to pay his nomination fee.

Speaking with journalists this afternoon, Dr. Alexis stated that he will be consulting the residents in the constituency to understand their needs.

He explains that there are issues such as water that require attention, but without the input of the people, he will not be able to address their realities adequately.

JLP Leader Prime Minister Andrew Holness has affirmed that Dr. Dunn is the right person for the job, as he will represent the views of the people of South East St. Mary adequately.

Dr. Norman Dunn was nominated today to represent the governing party in the October 30 by election.

And, Portland Western Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz says he will be mentoring Dr. Dunn should he be elected Member of Parliament for the South East St. Mary constituency.

Mr. Vaz states that he believes that Dr. Dunn will be successful because he is competent.

Meanwhile, PNP President Dr. Peter Phillips says putting fresh faces such as Dr. Alexis in parliament is one that is embraced by the PNP.

While Central St. Mary Member of Parliament Dr. Morais Guy says he believes that Dr. Shane Alexis will be bringing fresh ideas to the table should he be successful in this by election.
