PNP says it has SW St Andrew locked

The People’s National Party candidate for South West St. Andrew Dr Angela Brown Burke says claims that the Jamaica Labour Party can win the PNP stronghold are unrealistic.

At the weekend, Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party Robert Montague said the JLP would be going for the seat, which it is confident that it can win.

Dr. Brown Burke responded to the comments after being nominated today.

Meantime, Dr. Brown Burke says her immediate focus will be placed on youth development following the by election on October 30.

She said she will be paying attention to education as well as a reduction in crime and violence in her constituency.

Dr. Brown Burke says she is humbled by the level of support from members of her party and persons on the ground.

Several members of the PNP turned out to support her on nomination day today.

She is going up against theJLP’s Victor Hyde, who has also been nominated.

And, the Jamaica Labour Party’s candidate for South West St. Andrew, Victor Hyde, says it’s time for the party to reclaim the seat from the Peoples National Party.

The JLP has not held that seat since 1989.

Mr. Hyde says it’s time to bring the seat back home to the JLp.

He will be going up against the Peoples National Party’s Dr. Angela Brown Burke in the October 30 by-election.

Meantime, both PNP and JLP candidates for the St. Andrew South constituency are expressing high hopes for victory during the upcoming by-election on October 30.

Mark Golding of the PNP, as well as Dane Dennis of the JLP were nominated as candidates for the St. Andrew South constituency today (Oct 9).

Dennis will battle Golding for the seat vacated by longstanding member of the PNP Dr. Omar Davies.
