Andre Blake wins Player of the Month award

by October 10th, 2017

Reggae Boyz goalkeeper Andre Blake has been named MLS Player of the month for September, with a whopping 85 percent of the vote, following his return to action after suffering a hand injury in during the CONCACAF Gold cup final against the United States.

Blake, who played 2 matches in August after returning from the injury, had some of his best performances of the season in September.

It started off with a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United where he weathered a couple of dangerous chances and helped the Philadelphia Union grab a point on the road.

He then followed it up by stopping a season-high 8 shots – including a diving stop against Derrick Etienne – in a nationally televised game against the New York Red Bulls.

Blake the reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year capped off September by holding the Chicago Fire to just one goal as the Union extended its unbeaten streak to four games in a 3-1 win, and just like in his other September games, he made some big saves in key moments.

His performances during September saw him being nominated for Save of the Week and also saw him being named Man of the Match twice. He also dropped his goals against average to a 1.25 – the lowest in his career.
