Liverpool’s quest to secure a top four finish in the English Premier league has received a setback with news that Senegal midfielder could be out for up to six weeks after picking up an injury on international duty.

Mane was substituted late on in Senegal’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Cape Verde on Saturday.

The club in a statement confirmed that the winger picked up a hamstring injury that will side-line him for well over a month.

“Sadio Mane is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury on international duty, Liverpool FC can confirm,” a club statement read.

“The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday.

“And it has now been confirmed that he picked up an injury during that fixture that could keep him out of action for up to six weeks.”

The development is a huge blow to Liverpool’s aspirations in the both the Premier League and Champions League and also means he will miss Manchester United’s visit to Anfield on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has played nine times for Liverpool this season after recovering from knee surgery and has already missed three domestic matches after receiving a suspension following his sending off at Manchester City in September.
