PNP accuses JLP of vote buying

by October 10th, 2017

The Peoples National Party (PN) is again accusing the Jamaica Labour Party of using state funds to buy votes leading up to the October 30 by-election.

The PNP says it has written to the Political Ombudsman, the Contractor General and the Auditor General, requesting an urgent investigation into what it calls the raiding of the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) of nearly $30 m.

Chairman of the PNP Fitz Jackson says the funds are to be used for the removal of bulky waste and clearing of illegal dump sites.

Mr. Jackson says the PNP is in receipt of a letter indicating that funds have been moved from the TEF to the NSWMA, to implement the programme in St. Mary, Portland and St. Ann.

Mr. Jackson claims that several projects are at varying stages of implementation without the knowledge of the St. Mary Municipal Corporation and the National Works Agency.

He was speaking at a press conference at Gordon House this afternoon (Oct 10).
