Over one thousand children implicated in major crimes

by October 13th, 2017

Head of the Area One Police, Assistant Commissioner Donovan Graham says too many children are being charged for murders and shootings across the country.

He says between 2015 and September 30 this year, 1,419 children were implicated in major crimes which are murder, shooting, rape, robbery, larceny and aggravated assault.

Forty six of the number are girls.

ACP Graham says children are at the centre of many policing issues as it relates to crime and violence and other incidents, where they have become victims of abuse and crimes.

The ACP also revealed that over the three calendar years, 192 were arrested for murder, 365 for robbery and 152 for shooting.

Meanwhile, ACP Graham is calling on Jamaicans to do more to keep children away from crime.

He was delivering the keynote address at the 42nd anniversary installation dinner of the Kiwanis Club of Montego Bay, St. James last night (Oct 13).
