HAJ calls in MOCA to probe financial irregularities

by October 21st, 2017

The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), has launched a probe into allegations of financial irregularities related to some projects by the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) under the previous PNP administration.

This comes in the wake of concerns raised by Prime Minister Andrew Holness about misappropriated funds in the development of housing units in St. Mary and St. Elizabeth.

HAJ Board Chairman Norman Brown says he has acted on the directive from the Prime Minster and made contact with Moca.

He says all relevant documents and files will be submitted to Moca’s detectives.

Mr. Brown says the new HAJ board has its own concerns about the projects, as the projects indicate a severe financial loss for the agency.

He says years ago, the projects had promoted the Auditor General and Contractor General to request information about them, and it’s not clear why the HAJ, at the time, did not comply with the requests.

He says the Moca investigation will not hamper the current operations of the agency.
