Tank-Weld donates zinc to hurricane ravaged Dominica

The Tank-Weld group has donated 100 tonnes of galvanized sheeting valued at approximately $26 m to hurricane-ravished Dominica.

The group shipped the 100 tonnes of galvanized sheeting to Dominica from its Rio Bueno port in Trelawny yesterday (Oct 23).

According to Chief Executive Officer of Tank -Weld group, Chris Bicknell the donation equates to approximately 300 thousand square feet of zinc and will provide roofing for scores of houses.

Speaking with reporters yesterday Mr. Bicknell said his company’s contribution to Dominica will be routed through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

It is expected to arrive in Dominica within the next two weeks.

The United Nations says Dominica was one of the hardest hit countries in the Caribbean during the passage of Hurricane Maria in September.

Some 65,000 people on the island were affected. Agricultural crops were also significantly damaged.
