EOJ satisfied with security measures for by election in St. Mary

by October 27th, 2017

The Electoral Office of Jamaica says it is satisfied that adequate security will be provided for its staff for the by-election in South East St. Mary.

The political climate in the constituency has risen.

South East St. Mary is one of 3 constituencies where by-elections will be held next Monday October 30.

The others are Southern St. Andrew and St. Andrew South Western.

However, many have deemed the St. Mary constituency the battle ground seat, and both the Jamaica Labour Party and Peoples National Party have stepped up campaign activities there.

Director of Elections Orrette Fisher says he has had discussion with the police about security for staff on Monday.

Meantime, Mr. Fisher says another concern for St. Mary is the weather, as an increase in rainfall is expected.

He adds that all is in place for the hosting of the three by-elections.
