Voters in St Andrew complain about delay due to electronic system

by October 30th, 2017

Some voters in St. Andrew South complained about the length of time it took to cast their ballots because of the use of the electronic voter identification system.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica used the electronic voting system in St. Andrew Southern and St. Andrew South Western today (Oct 30).

When Irie FM News visited Charlie Smith high school some PNP supporters told our news team, they did not like the electronic voting system as some of them were having a bit of a challenge.

And, one person said she stood in the line too long as a result of the system.

Meantime a cluster worker at the high school said voting went well.

However, a supervisor from EOJ says there will be hiccups with any electronic system and a part of the problem is that voters are not familiar with the process.

She says voting picked up throughout the course day.

The PNP’s Mark Golding is up against the JLP’s Dane Dennis in St. Andrew South.

Generally, today saw low voter turnout in the constituency.

In the meantime, when Irie visited the Haile Selassie high school in the St. Andrew south western constituency this afternoon, party workers said they were hoping for a good last minute crowd.

Over at the Greenwich primary school the lines were not very long and voters said they did not experience any difficulties.

There were a few JLP supporters who expressed confidence of a win in the PNP’s strong hold which was held by former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.
