Windies pacer Shannon Gabriel up 20 places on ICC Rankings

West Indies pacer Shannon Gabriel has moved into the top 20 of the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers after the drawn second match of the two Test series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

The 29-year-old, who was a career-high 18th earlier this year, is now up to 20 after grabbing four wickets in the match to gain five slots.

He is now the highest-ranked Windies bowler, overtaking leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, who occupies the number 22 spot.

Gabriel is accompanied on the way up by new-ball partner Kemar Roach, who jumped four places to 23 after finishing with five wickets in the second Zimbabwe Test.

England’s James Anderson leads the rankings for bowlers with Ravindra Jadeja and Kagiso Rabada completing the top 3.

The rankings for Test batsmen meanwhile is headed by Steve Smith of Australia who is followed by Kane Williamson (New Zealand) and Chesteshwar Pujara (India).

Kraigg Brathwaite (21) and Shai Hope (25) are the highest ranked Windies players.

Century-makers Jason Holder and Shane Dowrich also made gains after their 212-run 8 wicket partnership in the Windies’ only innings of the match.

Captain Holder’s knock of 110 lifted him five slots to 57 while Dowrich’s innings of 106 saw him gain 17 places to be ranked 83rd.

There was also upward movement for opener Kieran Powell who is ranked 63rd after a move of five places.
