West Indies bolster batting with in-form Sunil Ambris for New Zealand tour

by November 5th, 2017

In-form batsman Sunil Ambris is the lone new face in the West Indies team for the upcoming two-Test series in New Zealand.

Ambris, fresh from scoring dual first-class centuries for the Windies A in the three-match four day ‘Test’ series against Sri Lanka A, replaces Kyle Hope who was dropped after scoring 16, 43 and 1 in the 1-0 win for West Indies in just concluded two-Test series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

The 24 year old also smashed 608 runs at an average of 43 for Windward Islands Volcanoes in the last first class season and was one of the leading scorers in the Regional Super50 earlier this year when he scored 423 runs at an average of 70.

“This is on the basis of his consistent performances across formats and his outstanding returns for the Windies ‘A’ team in the ‘test’ series against Sri Lanka ‘A’. This type of consistency is very welcomed by the panel,” chairman of selectors Courtney Browne said of Ambris.

Jermaine Blackwood meanwhile is the lone Jamaican in the team which is being led by captain Jason Holder

The 15-member squad is completed by vice-captain Kraigg Brathwaite, Devendra Bishoo, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Kieran Powell, Raymon Reifer and Kemar Roach.

The team will have a training camp until November 21 in Brisbane, Australia, before flying across the Trans-Tasman channel to New Zealand.

The first test bowls off on November 25 at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

The teams will also meet in three One Dayers and three T20 Internationals.
