Jamaica off to explosive start at CAC Games qualifying tournament

Jamaica’s national male and female hockey teams both registered comprehensive victories on Sunday to open their campaign on a positive note on day one of the 2018 CAC Games qualifying tournament which is being staged at the JN hockey field in Mona.

The men’s team, who were first in action, romped to 6-0 win over Panama thanks to a hattrick by Nicholas Beach. Beach got the first of his three goals in the 25th minute before making his way on the score sheet again in the 34th and 45th minute as the lead swelled to 5-0.

Kemar Mitchell had earlier given the team their first goal in the 9th minute while Duvaughn Henlon doubled the advantage after managing to drag flick one pass the goalkeeper in a 22nd minute penalty corner.

Charles Burton finished off the scoring in the 58th minute converting from another lovely team build up.

The result sees them topping the standings alongside Guyana who raced to a 4-1 win over Puerto Rico.

The Jamaican women’s team, who played later in the evening, matched their male counterparts after easing to a similar 6-0 win over Guatemala.

Demi Nicholson, Krystal Holgate and Shareeka Elliott made it 3-0 after just 26 minute before Ebony McLean, Kamille Griffiths and Shana-Kay Tullongue each scored to seal the one-sided win.

The other match on the day ended in a 6-0 win for Guyana over Panama.
