District constables formally transition into JCF

by November 11th, 2017

History was created yesterday (Nov 10) when the first batch of formally trained district constables officially crossed over into the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The 135 former district constables were among the graduates at the ceremony at the police collage in St. Catherine.

The cohort of 99 men and 36 women had just completed a 4 month training programme.

National Security Minister Robert Montague commended the graduates, citing their remarkable performance during training.

He urged all of the graduates to make an effort to rid the police force of corruption.

Mr. Montague says every member of the force should submit an anti-corruption declaration each year.

And, Police Commissioner George Quallo implored the graduates to always uphold good principles.

He noted that the new recruits are joining the force at a time when the society is wrestling with crime and violence.

Commissioner Quallo says many citizens perceive the justice system as being unjust, so police officers, who are mandated to maintain law and order, are expected to serve with dignity.
