Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister Robert Morgan says the implementation of the new National Identification System (NIDS) will help to prevent identity theft.

He says NIDS will aid in verifying individuals when conducting business, thus eliminating identity duplication.

Mr. Morgan says while Jamaicans have multiple identification documents, they are not considered effective identifications.

Meanwhile, Project Director of the National Identification System Warren Vernon says upon approval, the costing of each component will be made known.
