Cristiano Ronaldo named Best European Sportsperson of 2017

Real Madrid star striker Cristiano Ronaldo been named Best European Sportsperson for the second year in a row.

The Portugal captain was selected in a vote by 26 international news agencies after a successful year that saw him play a key role in the Galacticos winning five titles including La Liga, Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup.

In winning Ronaldo received 159 points beating Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton (143), tennis players Roger Federer (124) and Rafael Nadal (113) and Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjoestrom (75).

The prize has been running since 1958 and is awarded by the Polish PAP Agency.

Ronaldo, who won a record-equalling fifth Ballon D’Or earlier this year, is set to receive the Best Player gong at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Thursday night.
