West Indies cricketers remain winless following a 47 run defeat to New Zealand

The West Indies cricketers wait for their first win on tour has extended following a 47 run defeat to New Zealand in the first of three T20 Internationals at the Saxton Oval in Nelson today.

Dynamic half centuries from Glen Philips 55 on debut and Colin Munro 53 first piloted New Zealand to a challenging 187 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Jamaica’s Jerome Taylor took 2 for 41 and captain Carlos Brathwaite 2 for 38 were the pick of the ‘Windies bowlers.

At their turn to bat the ‘Windies struggled throughout before being blown out for 140 in 19 overs.

Andre Fletcher top-scored with 27 captain Carlos Brathwaite 21 while Ashley Nurse and Jerome Taylor made 20 each.

Chris Gayle scored 12 and Chadwick Walton 7 at the top of the order.

Another debutant Seth Rance collected 3 for 30 while Tim Southee bagged 3 for 36 as they helped to maintain the winless run of the windies on tour.

The second game will be played on New Year’s Day.
