Ocho Rios to host first UDC regional fireworks show

by December 30th, 2017

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) says it plans to expand the annual fireworks celebrations to other cities outside of Kingston, in coming years.

The fireworks on the Waterfront in Downtown Kingston began in 1999 to ring in the new millennium, and since then the event has become a calendar feature every New Year.

Communications Manager at the UDC Tyrell Morgan says, the expansion plan will start with the first staging of fireworks in St. Ann, at the Ocho Rios Bay Beach, to ring in 2018.

Mr. Morgan says the UDC will eventually host a third New Year fireworks show in Montego Bay, St. James.

And, citizens of St. Ann are being urged to come out in their numbers Sunday night, to the New Year’s fireworks celebrations, at the Ocho Rios Bay Beach.

Director of Subsidiary Management at the St. Ann Development Corporation, Farrah Blake, says this is the first time the fireworks display is being held in Ocho Rios.

She says the New Year’s fireworks display will mark the start of several activities to observe 2018, being celebrated as the 50th anniversary of the Urban Development company.
