Controversial American sprinter and world champion Justin Gatlin was among the athlete who was visited the most times in 2017 by the United States Anti-Doping Association (USADA) officials.
Gatlin who won the Men’s 100 metres IAAF World Championships gold medal in London was visited 13 times by USADA officials, while 110 metre hurdles world record holder Aries Merritt had 14 visits from the doping officials.
Galen Rupp, who won the Chicago Marathon and was second at the Boston marathon last year was the most tested American marathon runner.
He was tested 16 times by USADA during the 12-month period…………… the most-tested female runners were new York City marathon winner Shalane Flanagan and national 800 metres record holder Ajee’ Wilson…………both were tested 12 times each by USADA.
Athletes are also tested throughout the year by other authorities, such as the Sport’s governing body the IAAF……… those statistics are not available to the public, though some runners have published them independently, such as world champion in the steeplechase Emma Coburn who revealed that she had 11 out of competition tests in 2017.
