Public sector workers threaten to take action

by January 5th, 2018

The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JUTC) says it cannot guarantee normality in the public sector next week, if Monday’s Cabinet meeting to discuss wages, does not produce favourable results.

Vice President of the JUTC Oneil Grant says the union is aware that the government will be discussing wages for the police at Monday’s Cabinet meeting.

However, he’s urging that all public sector workers be considered.

Mr. Grant says the union has always been responsible in its handling of the industrial relations climate in the country.

He says the union can only be responsible this time around, if workers are treated fairly.

Mr. Grant says, public sector workers have been making sacrifices with wage freezes and restraints since 2004, and are at their wits end.

He was speaking at a press conference at the JUTC office in St. Andrew, this morning (Jan 5).
