Firefighters rescue St Mary family from flooded house

by January 6th, 2018

About 5 members of a family in Enfield, St. Mary, had to be rescued by firefighters today (Jan 6), after they were trapped following heavy rains and flooding.

Enfield resident Waldon Plunkett told Irie FM News that debris and flood water came rushing down from the hills and covered sections of the roadway and the house.

He adds that the blockade made it difficult for rescuers to get to the family.

He says the rains have also disrupted telephone signal and electricity supply to the community.

When contacted, Public Relations Officer for the Fire Brigade, Emilio Ebanks says, firefighters had to wait on heavy duty equipment to clear the blocked roads, in order to get to the family.

Mr. Ebanks says the family members were removed from the house and are staying with relatives at a different location.

He says firefighters have been responding to other calls within the Enfield community.

He says earlier this week, firefighters responded to calls in Trelawny and St. Ann.
