by January 9th, 2018

Motorists are again being urged to exercise extreme caution when traversing the Junction main road in St. Mary.

The roadway connects St. Mary to St. Andrew.

Head of Communications and Customer Service at the National Works Agency Stephen Shaw says motorists are playing a cat and mouse game on that corridor.

He is imploring motorists to exercise all precautionary measures when traversing that thoroughfare.

Mr. Shaw adds that the NWA teams are carrying out road clearing activities throughout St. Mary.

He notes that the Highgate to Richmond roadway which was blocked by a landslide has been reopened.

Meantime, vehicular access has been restored to some communities in western Portland that were left marooned after recent rains.

Councillor for the St. Margaret’s Bay Division Stephen Williams says, teams from the National Works Agency and the Portland Municipal Corporation, cleared roads leading into communities such as Durham Gap, Dumfries and Coopers Hill.

He highlights that the Coopers Hill primary school remains closed because the roadway leading to the school is unstable.

Meanwhile, Mr. Williams says hundreds of residents of Maidstone and Burbon in Mount Pleasant are still marooned due to flooding in their communities.

They have been marooned since Saturday due to landslides caused by heavy rains.

Speaking with Irie FM News business operator Eunice McQueen says the blocked road is preventing the delivery of supplies, and she is running out of stock in her shop.

Meanwhile, one resident Shirley Cardis says two years ago, the bridge joining Cornwall Barracks to Comfort Castle on the other side of the Rio Grande Valley, was washed away and is yet to be replaced.
