Ministry seeks JDF help to reach marooned residents

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security will be seeking the assistance of the Jamaica Defence Force to airlift relief supplies to residents who have been marooned in Portland tomorrow.

Following two days of heavy rains several communities have been marooned and scores of homes flooded in Portland.

Public Relations Manager at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Michka McCreath says efforts to reach sections of the parish today [proved futile as some communities are inaccessible.

The ministry will be providing food supplies, bedding and toiletries to affected residents.

Meantime, Chief Technical Director in the Ministry of Labour, Audrey Deer-Williams says some 80 assessments have already been conducted in areas that are accessible in Portland.
