The Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) has launched a probe into allegations that a police officer shot and wounded a man during a protest in Pusey Hill, Manchester yesterday (Jan 8).

At the same time, Indecom is appealing to the wounded man to make a report.

Indecom’s Senior Public Relations Officer Kahmile Reid says the matter is being treated as a discharge of firearm, and officers involved have been processed, and their weapons taken for ballistics testing.

A video of the protest, which shows a group of cops challenging residents, with sounds of shots being fired has gone viral, on social media.

The JCF Communications Unit says it is aware of the video, and checks are being made to verify the claims of residents.

The irate residents had mounted roadblocks, demanding repairs to deplorable road conditions and poor water supply.

It’s reported that a team of officers, assigned to the nearby bauxite plant, attempted to clear the blockades.

A female protester told Irie FM News, that one of the officers opened fired and a man was hit.

The wounded man, who was reportedly grazed on the hand, was taken to the medical facility at the bauxite plant, for treatment.

Meanwhile, Senior Investigator from Indecom’s Mandeville office, Owen Wright says investigations are at a preliminary stage.

Mr. Wright says it is being alleged that there was a confrontation involving the man and the officers, when he was shot.
