Many of detainees in S O E processed and released

by January 29th, 2018

Public Defender Arlene Harrison Henry says there has been improvement in the number of detainees being held at police stations in St. James following the implementation of the state of emergency.

Last week, there was public outcry by several groups about the number of detainees being held at police stations in small holding areas.

Since then, majority of the detainees have been processed and released.

Mrs. Harrison Henry says the lock up at the Barnett Street police station has been ordered closed and a small number of people is being held at the free port police station.

She says she is pleased with the improvement, and it shows that the police force has learnt some lessons from the 2010 Tivoli Garden operations.
