Aisha Praught-Leer sets meet and national record at the 111th staging of the Milrose Games

Aisha Praught-leer set a meet and national record at the 111th staging of the Milrose Games in New York City yesterday. 

Praught – Leer won the women’s 3000 meters in 8 minutes 41. 10 seconds, ahead of USA’s Emma Coburn who was just behind in 8 minutes 41.16 seconds.

Meanwhile Omar McLeod opened his season with a fifth place finish beating compatriot Asafa Powell in the men’s 60 meters clash.

McLeod the Jamaican sports man of the year stopped the clock in 6.63 seconds, just ahead of Powell who was timed at 6.69 seconds. The event was won by Ronnie Baker of the United States in 6.68 seconds.

In the women’s equivalent Shelonie Calvert was also a fifth place finisher, as she posted 7.29 seconds. The event was won by Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast in 7.11 seconds, as Torie Bowie of the USA took the runner up spot in 7.14 seconds.

Monique Morgan was a fourth place finisher in the women’s 60 meters in 8.09 seconds, with the event going to Tobi Amusan of the United States 7.90 seconds.
