Prime Minister Andrew Holness is expected to make a special announcement at the JLP Area Council 1 meeting now underway in St. Andrew.

Deputy Party Leader Desmond McKenzie, as well as Dr. Nigel Clarke and Duane Smith are also at the meeting.

It is being held at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre.

A party representative who spoke with Irie FM News did not reveal what the announcement would be about.

Today’s regular area council meeting is being regarded as special, as anticipation mounts for a by election for the North West St. Andrew constituency.

Outgoing MP Derrick Smith resigned last month, and while he has reportedly voiced his desire to have his son Duane contest the seat, the party has selected Dr. Nigel Clarke to run.

Dr. Clarke will be going up against educator Keisha Hayle of the PNP.
