Cavaliers trade Isaiah Thomas to Lakers on NBA trade deadline day

by February 8th, 2018

The 2018 NBA trade deadline came to an end with the Cleveland Cavaliers trading All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The move sees the Cavaliers, who are 5-5 in their last 10 games, also sending Channing Frye in return for Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson.

The Lakers will also get Cleveland’s 2018 protected first-round pick.

The trade makes the Cavaliers younger, as both players they are getting are 25 years old.

Clarkson averages 14.5 points per game on 45 percent shooting. He had been the Lakers’ sixth man, providing instant offense off the bench for much of the season.

Clarkson, who is owed $25.9 million over the next two seasons, averaged 21.2 points over an eight-game tear before scoring seven points in the Lakers’ win over Phoenix on Tuesday.

He leads the NBA with 274 points off the bench since January 1, 4 points ahead of Lou Williams (LA Clippers) over that span.

Nance averages 8.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. His father was a two-time All-Star for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers as part of a massive roster makeover also traded Dwyane Wade back to his former team the Miami Heat in return for a heavily protected second-round pick.

Wade was averaging a career-low 11.2 points per game this season, coming off the bench in 43 of 46 contests after joining in September.

The Cavaliers also traded Derrick Rose, Jae Crowder and Iman Shumpert for George Hill and Rodney Hood.
