Shannon Kalawan is the new (CIAA) Indoor Track and field championships 400 metres champion

Former Edwin Allen star hurdler Shannon Kalawan is the New Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Track & field championships 400 metres champion.

The Saint Augustine’s University freshman clocked a big new personal best 55.94 seconds to win the conference title ahead of Kianje Pollard 56.24 at the JDL track on Saturday.

The mark is the fastest in the CIAA this season, surpassing her previous personal best of 56.91 seconds.

Kalawan was winning her second title of the conference championships after helping the lady falcons to the distance medley relay title on Sunday.

Meanwhile former St Jago and Vere jumperr Sabina Allen broke the Campbell University long jump record at the Don Kirby invitational on the weekend.

Allen leaped to a personal best 5.98 metres on her final attempt to finish in 6th overall behind Canada’s Christabel Nettey, who won with a best of 6.52metres.

The mark eclipsed the record of 5.89m set in 2008 and is the 2nd best jump in big South conference history.

Allen standout completes the sweep of school records in the long and triple jumps owning indoor and outdoor records for both jumps.

This mark currently also ranks number 1 in the conference.

She came back to finish 2nd in the triple jump with a best jump of 13.01m to finish behind university of Oregon’s Chaquinn Cook (13.11metres).
