The Negril police in Westmoreland say they have seized an assault rifle and several rounds of ammunition along with a number of lead sheets believed to be used in lottery scamming.

The firearm is said to be a black RZG assault rifle, along with five cartridges.

According to the police, about 10:30 this morning (Feb 16), a team of officers was carrying out patrol duties at phase 3 in Whitehall, Negril, when they observed two men sitting on a wall.

Upon seeing the police, both men jumped from the wall and threw an object in bushes and ran.
The lawmen then carried out a search of the area, which resulted in the discovery of the assault rifle, which was wrapped in plastic.

Further search led to the discovery of several lead sheets along with the five rounds.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure, but the Negril police are carrying out investigations.
