National under 18 Rugby team departs Monday for Youth Olympic tournament

The national under 18 male Rugby Team will leave the island on Monday for Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the America’s North Youth Olympic seven tournament qualifiers.

The Jamaican Crocs will tackle, USA, Canada and Barbados and the team is captained by Mikel Facey who is also the youngest member of Jamaica’s to the commonwealth games in Australia in April. The team also includes, Shemar Harrison, Jevaughn Beckford, Dondre Haughton, Shane Miller, Tyerse Wright and Deshawn Marriott.

The team is coached by Antonio Burke.

From this tournament in Nevada, one team from the region will qualify for the youth Olympics to be staged later this year in Argentina.

Vice chairman of the Jamaica Rugby Football Union Keisha-Ann explains that the players are committed to doing well at the qualifiers.
