Westmoreland police step up efforts to catch criminals who use bikes

by February 22nd, 2018

The Westmoreland police say they are facing challenges in responding to crimes in some communities, especially when the perpetrators use motorcycles as their getaway vehicles.

The concern comes in the wake of another killing yesterday (Feb 21), bringing the murder tally to 21 so far this year.

Dead is 21 year old Rohan Brennon, otherwise called Jigsy, of Hudson Street in Savanna La Mar.

Reports are that about 2: 00 p.m. Brennon was at home with his female companion when men on a motorcycle approached the house.

It’s reported that the pillion rider got off the bike, ran up to Brennon and opened fire hitting him several times, then escaped on the waiting bike.

The woman was not hurt.

In the meantime, motorcycles were also used in the shooting and wounding of a man and a woman in Little London district yesterday.

Reports are that about 8:30 p.m. the 2 were standing in the vicinity of a service station when a group of bikers rode up and opened fire at them, then escaped.

The man and woman have been admitted to hospital. It’s reported that the man’s condition is critical.

The Westmoreland police say they have noticed a spike in crimes being committed by persons on motorcycles.

As such, efforts to clamp down on this practice will intensify, including more community patrols and spot checks at various points along roadways.
