by February 25th, 2018

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says security measures at the Falmouth Hospital in Trelawny have been boosted following an incident this morning (Feb 25) in which angry relatives of a man who died at the facility, threw stones damaging a section of the Accident and Emergency Department.

Frightened staff reportedly had to run for cover from the stones and shattered glass.

It’s reported that the man was involved in a motor vehicle collision along the Martha Brae main road this morning.

He was rushed to the Falmouth Hospital but later died while undergoing treatment.

The angry relatives accused the hospital staff of not moving quickly enough, to save the man’s life.

Dr. Tufton has described the incident as unfortunate.

He says the Trelawny police have since arrested 2 persons in relation to the attack on the hospital.

Dr. Tufton adds that he expects to get a report on the matter later this week.

He says in the meantime, the security arrangements at the hospital will be reviewed.

He says the regional team on the ground is also assessing the extent of the damage to the accident and emergency department, to determine if services can continue there, or if they may have to be temporarily relocated.
