Usain Bolt to captain World XI in Soccer Aid match at Old Trafford

Track and field legend Usain Bolt has revealed he has signed up to play at Soccer Aid 2018 at Old Trafford where he will captain a a team of international celebrities against a Robbie Williams led England side on June 10.

Soccer Aid has previously featured such footballing luminaries as Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho, Zinedine Zidane and Peter Schmeichel, along with celebrities such as Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson and James McAvoy.

While making the announcement Bolt said “It’s my dream to make it as a professional footballer. To play against some of football’s biggest legends is going to be remarkable.”

“Robbie and his England team better watch out as I won’t be going easy on them,” the Jamaican sprinter said, adding that he’s got a “special celebration” planned should his team win.

Bolt has spoken previously about wanting to get into professional football after retiring from athletics after the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London.

And over the weekend he put out a cheeky tweet – which led to much speculation – hinting he’d been signed to a club.

The Soccer Aid game at Old Trafford will bring together celebrities and former world-class footballers.

It has raised £24 million to help children since its launch in 2006.
