Neymar to undergo surgery

by February 28th, 2018

Runaway French league leaders Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that star midfielder Neymar will undergo surgery in Brazil later this week.

It comes after he sprained his right ankle and cracked his fifth metatarsal towards the end of last Sunday’s 3-0 win over Marseille.

The Ligue 1 giants have revealed that after three days of rest and various tests, the only option available was to operate on Neymar, who is the world’s most expensive player.

The 26 year old will now miss next week’s Champions League round-of-16 second leg with Real Madrid at Parc des Princes on Tuesday.

PSG in a statement said. “A joint decision has been taken between the medical staffs of both PSG and the Brazil national team.

“In accordance with the player, it has been decided that Neymar will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this week.

“He will be operated on by doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and accompanied by PSG’s Professor Saillant.”

Neymar joined PSG for a world record £200m fee from Barcelona last August and has scored 29 goals in 30 games.

PSG are 14 points clear of second-placed Monaco in the league and on March 6 will host Champions League holders Real Madrid, trailing 3-1 from the first leg.
